Michael Leon

Cloud Solutions Architect and DevOps Engineer based in Atlanta, GA

About Me

For work, I live in the world of DevOps and automation. I specialize in the HashiCorp suite in particular with several years of experience in both Terraform and Vault. Working collaboratively and involving everyone is a big part of what I do, so you can always find me iterating on CI/CD pipelines and Git to axe silly-but-very-human mistakes from the code release pipeline. I also love to learn and teach! It’s a big part of what drew me to the consulting world. Sharing our experiences and perspectives is what makes the world go round.

You can find some details on my certifications, skills, and relevant experience below. You’ll find my email listed at the bottom and top of the page. Please do not hesitate to reach out, I don’t bite (although I have to make an exception for hummus-coated flatbread).

Experience

AHEAD

Senior Technical Consultant

December 2019 - Present

https://www.ahead.com

In my role at AHEAD, I have been heavily involved in the HashiCorp stack, particularly around Terraform Enterprise and Vault Enterprise. I have had the opportunity to design and lay the foundations of these products across many clients, each with their own set of requirements and challenges. Those industries include financial services, healthcare, utilities, and more.

As a member of the DevOps team, I have also been able to continue working with CI/CD pipelines, configuration management tools, scripting and cloud architecture. Some of that tooling includes GitHub, GitLab, Ansible, Kubernetes, Python, AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.

Greenlight

Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

July 2019 - December 2019

https://www.greenlightcard.com

I was not in my role at Greenlight a long time before desiring to head back to the consulting world, but it was still a great opportunity to experience a mid-stage startup. As is the case with probably all startups, I got to wear many different hats during my time at Greenlight and it was my first exposure to SRE work. This was also my first experience with Kubernetes and Rancher.

Cloudreach

Cloud Systems Developer

February 2018 - July 2019

https://www.cloudreach.com

My main role at Cloudreach was to assist an Architect in designing our client’s cloud footprint and implement their landing zone design via Infrastructure as Code. These deployments were typically done using AWS CloudFormation templates and Terraform.

Capital One

Senior Associate

February 2016 - February 2018

https://www.capitalone.com

I spent my time at Capital One in the cybersecurity department working on application security and security platforms. On the application security team, I managed the platform, infrastructure, and CI/CD processes on an agile team responsible for a shift-left implementation of static application security testing. After rotating to the platform team for my second year, I worked with the compliance team to build a full stack web app around Qualys for automated compliance scanning. The web app was Angular on the front end and Golang on the backend.

Education

Georgia Tech

Bachelors of Science in Computer Engineering

August 2011 - December 2015

My general focus for coursework was around cloud computing, information and networks, and semiconductors. And yes, perenially losing college football teams are a curse I have to live with :)

A Little More About Me

I am a big time city nerd and love reading about cities and urban planning. If you get a chance to read Walkable City by Jeff Speck, it will change the way you interact with your city. I am also a big sports fan and particularly a mega ACC basketball junkie, although that doesn’t seem to help much in office March Madness pools. And when I’m watching college basketball at home, you might find me simultaneously cooking or baking a new recipe.

Worth noting, I also moonlight as a non-commissioned electric bike salesman.

I can be a bit chatty at times - if you’d like to endulge that, please find my email just below!
